Vredehoek residents present plan for a new park
An amphitheatre, jogging track and giant chessboard have been proposed by Vredehoek residents who are planning to transform a crime-ridden open space into a park.
The piece of land, known as The Plantation, is bordered by De Waal Drive and Crassula and Winburg avenues.
Last night, the Friends of the Plantation, a group formed by residents and the neighbourhood watch, presented their development concept to about 60 residents.
The plan includes a jogging track, exercise points and a natural safety barrier. A play area, tree trunk sculptures, a skating ramp for teenagers and a giant chessboard were also proposed, said Heidi Zöllner, an architect and Friends of the Plantation.
DA ward councillor Brett Herron pledged about R100 000 to help residents cover costs, and said plans to complete footpaths would be carried out.
