Residential construction drops 43%

The total value of recorded building plans passed at current prices continued to decline, Statistics SA said yesterday.

"The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities at current prices during January to September 2009 decreased by 26.9 percent compared with January to September 2008," Stats SA said.

The largest drop was reported for residential buildings (minus 43.3 percent), followed by additions and alterations (minus 11.4 percent) and non-residential buildings (minus 10.1 percent).
