Rajbansi relative evicted over rent arrears

A grandson of the late Minority Front leader, Amichand Rajbansi, has been evicted from the Umhlanga flat he was renting. His landlord has accused him of not paying his rent.

Avineshsing Rajbansi's landlord said yesterday he had not paid rent for several months, and that the arrears had amounted to more than R100 000.

Dave Amojee, 87, said the stress of the dispute between himself and Rajbansi had been "awful".

He said Rajbansi had broken several promises to pay his rent, leaving him with no alternative but to have the sheriff of the court evict him yesterday.

Rajbansi referred requests for comment to his attorney, Mahomed Essack, who said Rajbansi no longer lived in the Umhlanga flat, but that the circumstances in which he had left were private.

"He asks that his privacy be respected," Essack said.
