Pretoria residential estate surprised at property title win

The lush, well-manicured golf course, tight security and relaxed estate life at Pretoria's Woodhill Residential Estate and Country Club are what earned it the coveted "Green Jacket" title in a recent survey for the country's top golf estate.

According to the survey, carried out by mortgage risk management company Lighthouse Risk Management, Woodhill's 18-hole golf estate stood out above the rest in the country for the annual growth in property values last year.

The report, released at the end of last week and titled Top 11 Property Categories for 2011, follows a survey compiled on property growth between December 2010 and December last year.

"What is most surprising and pleasing is that the survey was totally random; we didn't know about it," the estate's marketing manager, Sarita Stonehouse, said yesterday.

She said that to get recognition for a year's hard work was something they definitely appreciated. "It's a team effort, right from the director, to management and all the staff... a lot of effort was put into our work here. We are elated," she said.

According to the report, the survey found that average properties on the Garsfontein Road golf estate rocketed from R2.4 million to R3.4m for the homes around and overlooking the golf course.

Touted as one of the most upmarket golf estates in Pretoria, Woodhill also has tennis and squash courts, a country club offering conference and function facilities, while nearby is the private Woodhill College, which offers both primary and high school education.

Stonehouse said: "The golf course, which determines the costs of our property and gets us recognition, is well maintained and manicured and is always in an immaculate condition."

Security, she said, was also a high priority at the estate: "The people who invest and live here need to know that when they come back home from their busy lives they can relax in comfort and enjoy the ambiance in safety."

There are controlled access gates, an electrified perimeter fence as well as guards patrolling 24 hours a day.

"We host a lot of functions and high-profile golf days," Stonehouse said, adding that it was during their normal course of offering quality service that their standards were recognised.
