Green Point hotel world's 'trendiest'

A small hotel in Green Point has beaten off competitors from New York, Paris, Miami, Berlin, Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam and Chicago to be voted the World's Trendiest Hotel.

Villa Zest Boutique Hotel won the coveted award during last week's Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Awards.

Yesterday, Western Cape Tourism MEC Alan Winde congratulated the hotel's management and staff.

He said that Cape Town was featuring unbelievably well in the new media space for tourism. The city was voted the world's best destination during last year's Traveller's Choice Awards.

The hotel attributed the win to its Bauhaus-inspired architecture, fused with a modern twist on a 70s theme. The owner, Kevin Gerlach, said the challenge was taking a minimalistic interior and giving it warmth.

The other SA hotel in the top 25 Trendiest Hotels is Cape Town's Protea Hotel Fire and Ice (No 11).
