Cape Town names construction standstill areas for World Cup
Construction in parts of Cape Town will have to come to a standstill during the World Cup or on match days to ensure minimal disruption.
The city has placed limits on construction in "specific protected areas" and has urged contractors to observe these.
Contractors on affected projects will be notified in writing that they should suspend activities either for the duration of the World Cup, or on specific match days, depending on the location.
The city might also ask them to erect additional screening, depending on the site.
Areas affected are:
Until July 16, no wayleaves will be issued for construction in the road reserve of main pedestrian routes and protocol routes, and contractors that do have wayleaves in the above areas have been asked to contact the city with details on their activities.
