Cape Town estimates R10 billion per year to eliminate informal settlements

The City of Cape Town says it would need R10-billion every year for the next five years in order to provide formal housing for all people living in backyards or in informal settlements around the city.

Shehaam Sims, mayoral committee member for housing said the council had set aside R663-million for this financial year to deliver about 8 000 homes, serviced sites and in-situ upgrades of informal settlements.

Comments:

Funny thing is that informal gets first preference. Is it because they are from other provinces?Even then, they own places there and Cape Town origins gets nothing from there. How come?It is not fair, and beware-if you start with this, then something else you will have to face.
