Property along the Garden Route
The Garden Route that runs along the southern Cape coast from Mossel Bay almost to Port Elizabeth has gained renown as one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in the world – and the location of some of the most desirable properties in SA.
The route takes in such picturesque villages as Hartenbos, Herold’s Bay, Wilderness, Sedgefield and Brenton on Sea as well as larger centres such as George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay before finishing in a flourish with the magical Tsitsikamma forest and awesome Storms River mouth just before Jeffreys Bay.
Plettenberg Bay has of course been SA’s premier holiday destination for many years, and is a favourite among wealthy inland investors looking for luxurious properties with outstanding sea views. In recent years it has also become SA’s polo hub, and now boasts several upmarket equestrian properties & estates geared to the sport’s top breeders and players.
Mossel Bay, which has a long and fascinating maritime history, has today grown into a very popular tourist playground, complete with a wide variety of sports facilities from golf and sailing to the more extreme shark cage diving and bridge jumping have driven the property demand. Property developers have also been very active here in recent years and the town boasts large numbers of holiday properties.
The area between George and Knysna, in the centre of the Garden Route, has become SA’s top golfing area and the location of several internationally-known residential golf estates, including Fancourt, Pezula and Oubaai. The multimillion- rand houses in these estates are some of the most sought-after properties in the country.
